When I think of journeys, the first thing that comes to my mind as an immigrant is moving from a place to another. When I moved from Beirut to Edmonton, it was my first time leaving the Middle East, and despite having the privilege of being fluent in both English and French, it was still difficult for me to understand the structure of these long trips, especially with multiple layovers. Navigating airports and the emotional fluctuations was an unexpected difficulty.
With this in mind, I decided to create a map that guides people traveling from Beirut to Edmonton for the first time, to help them prepare for the trip in the best way possible, both physically and emotionally. My design solution focused on communicating the information from the perspective of someone leaving from Beirut, having experienced this myself, it was easier for me to embody the user's point of view, and start the time and emotional changes directly from Beirut. I included all the amenities in each airport for layovers, and the services provided on board in each flight for early preparation in case someone needed to pack extra support. Ideally, this map would be handed out to travellers right after booking their flight.
