This project was focused on developing a cohesive system to promote the new 2025/2026 Workroom Theatre season. This season's main list of plays includes: Blood Relations by Sharon Pollock, A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen and The School for Scandal by Richard B. Sheridan. The promotion system included the designs of five tabloid-sized posters, five large outdoor banners, five social media ads (stories and posts), five website images and five carousel images, promoting each play individually, as well as the overall season. My design process relied on using symbolism with a mid-century modern approach to create a unique, yet appealing system inviting both theatre lovers and those who are unfamiliar with these plays.

For this project, the development of a distinct identity was the most difficult part of the design process. I had little to no experience with reading, understanding, or imagining what plays such as Blood Relations or A Doll's House would look like. I wanted to start with a mid-century modern colour palette based on the conversation we had with our client, Trish. I understood later that this season is specific to a time or a place, yet it is not limited to either.
After reading as much of the plays as possible and talking to my friends and colleagues who have experience reading English plays, I landed on a final visual identity that interweaves my initial inspiration with concepts of mystery, scandal, peculiarity and femininity. The concept of the design system comes through the prominence of symbols as key objects communicating the highlights of each play, such as the axe in reference to murder in Blood Relations, and their movement in the background that invites the viewer to question the plot. The final promotions form a cohesive system that incorporates a wide colour palette, as well as bold, condensed typography in juxtaposition of a clear and simple sans serif. This project was voted as one of the top five by the client.
